Stefan Gurgian became the last cobbler in Quincy when Nick's Shoe Repair closed in 2002. He has run his shop, Marelli Shoe Repair, in the Wollaston section of Quincy for 23 years. In the 1940s, there were as many as 40 cobblers in the city. The business has died, he says, as the quality of shoes has declined and they are no longer "fixable." But he still has some devoted customers in the neighborhood.
